Boston Blue Season 2 finally has a confirmed filming start date — and it’s coming straight from the cast. Gloria Reuben, who plays Boston DA Mae Silver, announced on Instagram that production kicks off next week, with the show heading back to Toronto.

“Season 2 filming begins next week. Arrivederci, New York! Toronto calls, and Mae Silver awaits,” she wrote alongside a video message.

The confirmation lines up with earlier speculation built around star Donnie Wahlberg’s schedule. Wahlberg, who also performs with New Kids on the Block, has concert dates running June 19 through July 4, then picking back up October 2 through 17 — leaving early July as the clear production window, as TV Insider first reported.

Toronto Over Boston, Again

Despite the show’s Boston setting, most filming continues to happen in Toronto for budget reasons — a point Wahlberg has been vocal about. “I’ll give back 50% of my paycheck if we can go to Boston,” the Boston native previously said, recalling how producers responded that even the full cast forfeiting their pay wouldn’t cover the cost difference. Season 1 did include some location shooting in Boston, including scenes at Fenway Park and Boston Common.

Fall Return, Time Slot Confirmed

CBS has confirmed Boston Blue will return this fall in its established Fridays at 10/9c slot — the timeslot long held by predecessor Blue Bloods — though an exact premiere date hasn’t been announced yet.

What’s Ahead in Season 2

Season 2 picks up after a time jump and digs into the aftermath of Season 1’s cliffhanger, in which Lena Silver’s boyfriend Brian was struck by a truck and swept into the Charles River. Showrunners Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis have also teased a deeper look at Lena’s family dynamics, including her relationship with a newly introduced biological sister alongside her existing bond with her stepsister. Danny and Baez’s long-distance relationship is also expected to move forward, with Baez working toward relocating to Boston.
